Crufts 2009

Carradine & Hyde Castle Cairns were shown with great success at Crufts 2009. The following results show just how successful working in partnership to establish a unique breeding programme can be. Here are the results:

Special Junior – Dog
1st Noncom Inett Tu Winnit With Carradine (Inett & Harrison)
SJD

Henry, as he is known at home has some rather famous parents; his dad is the UK’s Top Cairn Ch Cannwood As If By Magic To Starveren JW; his mum is a daughter of UK Ch Hyde Castle Flic Flac for Carradine. Flic was the first UK Champion to have been bred outside the UK. Jean Curtis bred flic’s daughter, Magic and she now resides with Mic & Babs Burgin in Skegness. Mic and Babs bred the litter containing Henry & Minnie The Minx under their Noncom affix. Henry’s hobbies at home include opening the goodie cupboard so he can have his supper earlier than everyone else!

Yearling – Dog
2nd Spawyche Elizabethan Onyx (Moseley & Inett)

Barney’s history is a clear demonstration of the success of partnership working. His father Multi Ch Glenmore’s Top Gun was loaned for 12 mths from Christiane Wentzel in Germany to Dawn in the UK. Wendy Mosely, Barney’s breeder mated her young bitch Ruby to Top Gun and the resultant litter contained 5 boys! Wendy and Dawn kept Barney from this litter and although only lightly shown he has won Puppy Grp 3 at the UK’s prestigious National Terrier Championship Show and a reserve CC. We are looking forward to showing Barney over the coming show season.

Vhc
Carradine Night Listener At Harkinleigh (King & Leighton)

Rosemary and Dawn bred Archie. His mum is a Maddie who Wendy Mosely bred and his dad is Carradine Unique Fred. Fred was conceived in Austria and born in the UK in the first litter that Elfi and Dawn bred together. Although only shown as a puppy Fred has sired over 100 puppies and has winning children in Germany; Gypsy is a German Junior Champion, Polly in Finland who is a Finnish Champion and many sons and daughters with wins in the UK. Archie (and his brother Angus) was sold by Dawn & Rosemary to Nick King and Gerry Leighton who has successfully shown these two young boys. Indeed at their first Championship show they won 1st and 2nd in the puppy class! Nick and Gerry will show Archie and Angus throughout 2009.

Post Graduate – Dog
3rd Alfie Lunar Hopper (Mrs J Barney)

Archie, as he is known at home is owned by Jane Barney. Jane is no stranger to the show ring as her mother used to show Samoyeds and her sister shows Pharaoh hounds. Archie is Jane’s first Cairn and she purchased him from Linda Moor in Worcestershire and he is another Fred son. Linda breeds her own Cairns but usually uses the stud dogs of Rosemary and Dawn. Archie is a handsome dog and will be handled throughout 2009 by Dawn.

Special Junior – Bitch
3rd Noncom Minnie The Minx At Carradine (Inett & Harrison)
SJB

Minnie is Henry’s sister! There were 6 puppies in this Mic & Babs first litter of Cairns and an amazing 5 of them have been shown and qualified for Crufts 2009. Another record set by this wonderful litter is that 3 of the puppies won Best Puppy in Breed at Championship shows, and this, we think, is a new breed record – 3 pups from one litter wining Best Puppy at a championship show! Mic & Babs had shown Bulldogs for several years prior to deciding to have a smaller breed. They first purchased a Flic son, Flint, off Dawn & Rosemary and then purchased Magic, Henry and Minnie’s mum. They now have four Cairns, Flint, Magic and two of Henry and Minnie’s sisters. Watch out for the Noncom affix throughout this years show results…

Limit – Bitch
2nd Carradine Sapphire At Spawyche (Mrs W V Moseley)
LB

Saffie is owned by Wendy Mosely and was bred by Rosemary and Dawn. She is yet another Fred daughter and sister to Carradine Polly who recently became a Finnish Champion. Saffie was handled by Dawn at Crufts 2009 and we were thrilled for her to win 2nd in this hotly contested Limited bitch class with 11 top class bitches entered. Wendy bred Saffie’s mum, Maddie, who then went to live with Dawn & Rosemary where she had two litters both sired by Fred. The first litter contained Saffie and Polly and the second contained Nick & Gerry’s Archie & Angus. Maddie has now retired to live with Gail in Stratford Upon Avon but her babies will be in the ring throughout 2009.

Good Citizen Dog Scheme
The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is the largest dog-training scheme in the UK. Its aim is to promote responsible dog ownership and in turn, enhance our relationship with our pets and to make the community aware of the benefits associated with dog ownership. Dog that have passed the assessments and won this award can be entered in this Special Class at Crufts 2009.

In 1st place was Curtisey Joint Venture (Mrs S C Williams)
GCB

Sian Williams owns Kiera (as she is known at home). Jean Curtis bred Kiera and her parentage is another partnership success; Kiera’s dad was a dog owned by Rosemary and Dawn and her mum was Maddie’s sister, Gem. Gem was of course, bred by Wendy Mosely and owned by Dawn & Rosemary but she was loaned to Jean Curtis to have this litter. Kiera has had much success in the show ring and indeed she spent the Summer of 2008 with Dawn to be shown and she won many class placings but also the reserve CC at Richmond Championship show. Kiera is Sian’s first show dog and she is now hooked…
2nd in the Good Citizen Dog Scheme class was Therhyse Olways Moanin (Dr J L Janes). Jo Janes owns Rosie who is a daughter of our International & UK Champion Carradine Toblerone. Rosie is Jo’s first show dog and they qualified for Crufts 2009 at their first show in the summer of 2008. Rosie is regularly groomed by Dawn and Jo travels from Cardiff to Worcester (approx 100 Km) for Rosie’s regular hair do’s.
In 3rd place was Little Miss Tonka (Mrs V L Byrne). Vanessa has owned Cairn’s before but this is also her first show dog. Tonka was named after the range of Tonka Toys, as she is robust and rugged, just like the toys! Vanessa attends the same weekly show training class that Jane with Archie and Dawn & Rosemary go to so although we didn’t breed Tonka she is still part of our “gang”.

We breed Carradine & Hyde Castle Cairns in partnership for the future of our breed. First and foremost is health, all of our Cairns are tested regularly for eye, heart and liver problems. All of our Cairns have wonderful temperaments that make them great family pets as well as wonderful show dogs. They are fit and healthy and enjoy showing.
